12 Essentials for Personal Leadership

The power of one is extreme: you can change a life, change a neighborhood, change a nation.
Yet before anyone can lead the charge to make a difference in the world, personal leadership must be mastered.
I have found in my own life that there are certain areas of attitude, beliefs and commitments that I have to continually practice and grow in  to achieve my goals.

1.  Do It Now
Some people have been procrastinating for years, for decades. The way to overcome
procrastination is to do it now! Fear is the attitude and belief behind this behavior. If you are afraid, you won’t leave the shore. You have to leave your place of security  to grow. Change is applied
effort and action undergirded by faith. What ONE THING can you do now to move forward?

2. Develop A Positive Mindset
You have creative mental energies ready to be released: it will cause you to find ways that things can  be done. The opposite uses exhaustive emotional energy thinking on why things cannot be done. Become aware of your mental state and challenge thoughts as they come in.

3. Live  with Enthusiasm
Enjoy what you are doing. Enthusiasm comes from the Greek en theos: In DGod. It  is contagious.
It is not a foolish attitude, but a level of positive energy that unleashes creativity and solutions.

4. Live a Disciplined Life: Create Habits and Routines
It’s been said that discipline is the key to a happy life. You can change your life by changing your habits. Don’t be fooled by the 21-day theory. Set out to do something for 100 days and  do not  deviate. After this, it will be locked in and hard to break. Daily habits, weekly routines, monthly checklists.

5. Learn to Handle Pressure
You can’t escape pressure unless you leave this earth! Be a problem-solver. Every time you worry,  it is because you have created a negative mental image in your head. Worry creates more pressure.

6. Learn to Handle Your Emotions
Emotional strength and self-control is more important that intelligence. When everything looks like it is falling apart, you can’t become an emotional basket case.  Emotions must be controlled.

7. Learn How to Handle Rejection and Criticism
Anytime you go beyond the status quo,  someone will criticize. Learn to shake it off. It has no more power over you than you give to it. Learn to shake off rejection. People will reject your ideas, your products, your services. But, others will love your ideas, your products, your services.

8. Be a Solid Decision Maker
The successful people I know make decisions quickly and rarely change therm. Unsuccessful
people make decisions slowly and change them often. Double-mindedness is your enemy.

9. Learn the Power of Resilience
Definition: The power to return to original form after being bent, compressed, or stretched. Ability to recover readily; buoyancy. When you fall down: get up and take a step forward. Finishing strong is a character-building endeavor that is made up of choices we make every day.

10. Make Your First Impression Count For You
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.  Make sure your personal appearance is clean, well-fitted and polished. Make sure all your materials are top-notch. Smile, make eye-contact, speak with a warm voice. BE gracious and kind.

11. Live by the Golden Rule – Treat Others as You Want to Be Treated
Treat all people with respect especially those with whom you have  differences:
How people treat you is a reflection of who they are; how you respond is a reflection of you.

12. The Price You Pay: Full Commitment
Commitment to excellence means you are always learning, growing, improving, problem-solving,  finding a way. You must learn how to excel in dimensions you have never known before.
Know your stuff inside and out – this will give you confidence.
